How students experience math matters. Across the Abbotsford School District, educators are helping students build confidence in numeracy through hands-on, collaborative, and engaging learning experiences.

Building on the BC curriculum, the district’s numeracy framework supports students in developing deeper understanding by encouraging them to think critically, communicate their reasoning, explore different strategies, and apply math to real-life situations.

The Abbotsford Board of Education regularly meets throughout the school year. Agendas and minutes from the public Board Meetings can be accessed through the District's Electronic School Board. Abbotsford School District teacher and coach Ryan McWhinney was recognized with the Coaching Sports Hall of Fame Award at the Abbotsford Sports Hall of Fame banquet recently.

The award recognizes coaches who have made a significant impact in high school and community sports.

Abbotsford School District elementary and middle school students recently stepped beyond the classroom to learn more about the local services, community spaces and public institutions that support the city they call home.

As part of the civic field trip experience, students visited several community locations, including the Abbotsford School District School Board Office, Abbotsford Police Department, Abbotsford Fire Rescue Services, Abbotsford City Hall, Fraser Valley Regional Library, and The Reach Gallery Museum.

Recently, more than 75 Grade 12 students from five secondary schools completed the internationally recognized Diplôme d’études en langue française (DELF) exam.

Offered at multiple levels, from foundational to advanced proficiency, the DELF is a lifetime certification recognized in over 170 countries. It assesses students’ abilities in listening, reading, writing, and speaking in French.

Vaping is popular among youth. Daily or near-daily use can increase the risk of mental and physical health harm.

In 2023, 26 percent of youth in grades seven through 12 in British Columbia reported having vaped. The most common age that B.C. youth first tried vaping was 13. 

Recently, at the Semá:th First Nation Longhouse, an Honouring Ceremony took place for the 2026 Indigenous Role Models. Here’s a look at each of our role models, along with an inspirational quote from each individual. Role model posters will be displayed at school sites for everyone to explore and learn more about each student.

An incredible honour has put a spotlight on Abbotsford School District’s Superintendent. Dr. Nathan Ngieng has received the King Charles III Coronation Medal, a historic recognition that celebrates significant contributions to community, service, and Canada. This achievement not only recognizes his nearly three decades of dedication to education, but also reflects the values of innovation, integrity, and student-centred leadership that he demonstrates every day.

A new collection of student artwork is now on display at The Reach Gallery, continuing a multi-year exploration of identity, culture, and personal story through student art.

Now in its third year, the exhibition features a new set of works created during the current school year by students across the Abbotsford School District and the Fraser Valley. Through visual and digital mediums, students respond to questions of belonging, lived experience, and how culture shapes who they are.

Abbotsford School District is once again celebrating strong results at the Skills Canada BC Provincial Competition, where students showcased their skills across trades and technology.

Kate Brown (ASIA Sumas) earned Gold in Architectural Drafting and will advance to the national competition. Hailey McIntosh (Robert Bateman Secondary) earned Bronze in Electrical Wiring, highlighting the depth of talent across the district.
